For a general entertainment channel rooted in drama, the launch of a comedy serial could be interpreted as a step in the direction to increase variety on the channel, which is precisely what Sahara TV, the 24-hour, F-T-A, Hindi channel has set out to do. The channel will launch Gilli Danda on May 1 at 7.00 pm.

Conceived, produced and directed by Sachin Pilgaonkar who was involved with the popular Tu Tu Main Main on Star Plus, Gilli Danda revolves around a boy named Gulshan or Gilli and his retired neighbour Mr Dhanda who is Danda uncle for Gilli. Drawing from the popular street game Gilli Danda, it attempts to explore the mind of a child living in a world surrounded by adults.
