| Akanksha Maker, a student of Arya Vidya Mandir, Mumbai has been selected to lead the Indian team on to the grounds during its match against Zimbabwe on February 19 in Harare. Maker was handpicked by Pepsi and kid's channel, Nickelodeon as part of the Pepsi Badaa Shikari Hunt on MAX and Viacom channels, Nickelodeon and MTV.
Maker is the third after Akshay Wattal and Aman Bakshi from Delhi who led the Indian team in their first two encounters with Holland and Australia. Her winning entry stated, "Sourav, you being the captain of the Indian cricket team have proved yourself by doing what you do best. I think India is a team, which deserves better than the best!!! With complete determination and sheer enthusiasm show the world the worth of the Indian team. Aim for victory, give it your best, no matter what obstacles come your way, cast your way through them and play to your fullest."
The contest, which kicked off last month, is aimed at giving six young cricket fans the opportunity to lead the Indian side during its respective matches at the World Cup. Participants are required to write a letter to the Indian skipper stating why he or she should be leading the Indian contingent. Winners get an opportunity to travel to South Africa along with a parent or friend. The final date of the contest is February 19, 2003. |
