Leaders of Biotech sector featured in BBC World series

This week on BBC World###SQ###s new business programme, Business Bites, Ronnie Screwvala invites corporate bigwigs from the biotechnology sector in India to debate some interesting issues impacting their industry today.

"The biotech industry in India is growing rapidly", asserted Dr. Swati Piramal, director, Nicholas Piramal India Limited and Dr. Cyrus Poonawala, chairman, Serum Institute of India. Both market leaders felt that biotechnology has the potential of becoming the next sunrise industry of India, if only the government regulatory bodies could make the decision making process simpler.

Dr Poonawala voiced his angst against red tape and proposed the need for a single window clearance. Dr Piramal on her part called for a more structured regulatory body with clear guidelines.

Business Bites, a part of the channel###SQ###s India Business Report, sees Ronnie Screwvala inviting two leaders from the same industry to lunch, to discuss the policies, issues and challenges impacting their sectors every week..

Filmed in some of the best restaurants in India, Business Bites takes some of the people defining the country's economy away from the formality of a TV studio to offer an insider's look into the industries being examined. In the past the series has featured guests such as Nandan Nilekani, A.K Purwar, S B Mathur, Ranjit Shahani, Peter Mukherjea and Kunal Dasgupta, to name a few.

The programme is produced for BBC World by UTV.
