STAR News, the 24-hour Hindi news channel, has appointed Santanu Mallick as its chief financial officer. Mallick moves from Philips India, where he was divisional controller of the lighting business for six years.

A qualified chartered accountant and company secretary, Mallick has over 23 years of experience having worked with corporates such as HLL, RPG, Reliance Telecom, and of course, Philips.

"I am excited to take on the responsibility at STAR News at a time when the Indian news channel category is at the threshold of exponential growth," he says. "My focus will be to maximize financial resources that will enable STAR News to establish itself as a dominant player in the category."
